does long hair make you play faster?

Post  eddie van whaaaaaalin' on Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:02 pm

i was wondering if long hair can make guitarists play faster.

yngwie malmsteen has never cut his hair and i see no sign of him slowing down, nor zakk wylde, ,marty friedman, steve vai, vinnie moore, richie kotzen, guthrie govan etc

paul gilbert chopped his hair off around the time of his solo albums, all of which were way slower than any previous releases
NOTE. With the release of his instrumental albums there has been some considerable growth(also a beard) which has resulted in a notes per second increase.

And as for Eddie Van Valen.... we all know what happened in the 90's.

just a thought

does long hair make you look beautiful?

I don't think long hair is necessary: I think Steve Morse and Joe Satriani can play just as fast (if not faster) with short hair!

However, there may be a psychological advantage to long hair: Surely looking beautiful and feeling that one is really "worth it" boosts inner confidence and results in a higher level of performance (i.e. faster playing)?!

Obviously Al DiMeola has enough inner confidence to play fast with short hair! Is there anyone faster?

If you look at it logically then long hair should slow down your playing as you can't see the frets which will start to stress you out and you'll start hitting wrong notes. Hi Faith.
